This past week we did a lot and a lot more went home. Especially with the end of the quarter near, it is especially important that if work doesn't get finished in class, it will be sent home to be completed.

This week only 9 students finished their word study.  There were only 3 assignments and I gave them all week to complete the tasks. Monday students were given a set of vocabulary words with definitions.  They were then told to put the definitions in their own words, use them in a sentence, and draw a picture to go along with the word. These words are economy vocabulary that they will be tested on this Thursday. The other half of the terms will be this weeks word study.

Your child may have come home this past week and done some exploring on discovery education. They had their digital literacy time to explore creating a board and finding video clips, photos, songs, etc to go along with what we are learning in the economy. This project is more for them to explore and learn how to maneuver through the site. We will be spending some more time working on it next quarter.  If you need help exploring, here is the information needed:

In math we continued working with fractions and focused on adding and subtracting mixed numbers and improper fractions using number lines, pictures, and mathematically. Next week we will be multiplying fractions by a whole number and wrapping up with a short quiz and a case 21 test.

In language arts we have been studying poetry and figurative language. We worked with similes, metaphors, idioms, hyperbole, and personification. We looked at various poems and broke them down. In small groups we continue to read and work on our literature circles. These will be going hem this week as reading homework so we can finish the books this week.

In social studies we are learning about the economy and have read Beatrice's goat and watched several discovery education clips. We will have a vocabulary quiz this week and a short application quiz where students identify economic parts of a movie theatre and such.
