Week of May 16th

We worked with the algebra kit this week and its amazing what the class can learn in two days. Here is an example of what we did at the end. Look at #4 on the paper. This is how we set up the problem using blocks and pawns. The pawns represent x.

The first step is getting rid of pawns on both sides. If I take one from one side, I take it from the other.
Now that the pawns are only on one side, we want to get the numbers on one side. If I take 2 from one side, I have to take it from the other.
2x=10.  10/2=5.   X=5.   Now we plug it in the original equation to check our work.

We have been reviewing for the EOGs all week long and focusing in different strategies to use in math and reading. We have looked at several different passages, broken them down, and looked at how to choose the best answer. We also have played some games to build fluency and practice skills.

Next week try to keep things normal at home. Make sure your children get a good night sleep and a good breakfast in the morning.  We will have snacks again before testing, but it is a long day....

We will finally be watching Holes on Wednesday afternoon when we are done testing along with a special snack. We have started a social studies project focusing on culture and traditions that we will be working on, along with a PROBE and a math project over the last days of school.

Just letting you know we will be eating lunch in the room now through next Thursday.
We have computer on Monday and music on Thursday.

We have extended the can drive through next Wednesday, the pantry is in need of canned foods, and laundry detergent as well.

5/20-5/21 EOGs
5/27 field day
5/29 ice cream social with buddies
5/30 last day of school, report cards go home
